TEDLAR®: Protective and release films
More than 30 years ago DU PONT developed a new kind of film made of polyvinyl fluoride: TEDLAR® PVF film. Its excellent mechanical, electrical and chemical properties and outstanding weather resistance make TEDLAR® an ideal protective and release material.
TEDLAR® is a registered trade mark of Du Pont.
KREMPEL is the authorised distributor for TEDLAR® for Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and East Europe.
Please submit your detailed inquiry to our "Composites" division which will provide you with comprehensive information and technical data originating from Du Pont.
Advantages.
Decades of practical experience and laboratory tests have fully confirmed the excellent characteristics of TEDLAR®.
- TEDLAR® is a polyvinyl fluoride film. The fluorine content produces stronger chemical binding than in normal polymers, leading to significantly increased strength and durability so that TEDLAR® is resistant to solar radiation, solvents, acids, bases, moisture and oxidation.
- TEDLAR® is stretched longitudinally and transversely during the manufacturing process. A molecular lattice is formed which considerably enhances the physical properties. This gives TEDLAR® greater resistance to abrasion, lower permeation of moisture and stretching capability up to 100% without tearing.
- TEDLAR® contains no plasticiser, is colour-fast and resistant to bleaching, chalking and fungus growth. The non-adhesive dirt-repellent surface is easy to clean. Even the strongest cleaning agents do not damage the film.
- TEDLAR® has excellent properties in the temperature range from -70°C to +110°C and peak temperatures up to about +200°C are tolerated for short periods without any problems.
- TEDLAR® will adhere securely and permanently to the substrate material to be protected if appropriate special adhesives are used. In the case of temperature fluctuations the film expands or contracts following the dimensional changes of the substrate material.
The numerous available types of TEDLAR® provide the engineer with materials suitable for a wide range of applications. TEDLAR® is extruded or cast by DU PONT under very strict quality control according to a patented polymerisation process. Conformity with the technical specifications is checked carefully before dispatch.
The TEDLAR® programme.
TEDLAR® is produced in numerous colours and thicknesses. Certain characteristics can be achieved with special additives, e.g. greater thermal stability, electrical conductivity or flame-retardant properties. Important parameters can be adjusted as required, with additives and processing, to yield for example specific stretching and moulding grades. Thus specially designed TEDLAR® PVF film types are available for any particular application.
